The Northern Wake Fire Department is seeking an exceptional leader to join our Administrative Leadership Team as the Assistant Chief of Career Services. This is more than a personnel management position, it is an opportunity to help shape the future of our organization by investing in people, strengthening culture, and supporting the mission of our department.

We are looking for a leader of unquestionable character who understands that leadership is rooted in service, humility, integrity, and accountability. The ideal candidate will be a team player who values collaboration, embraces diverse perspectives, and contributes to a healthy leadership environment where ideas can be discussed openly and respectfully.

At Northern Wake, we believe great leaders can challenge ideas, provide honest feedback, and engage in difficult conversations while maintaining professionalism and trust. We are seeking someone who can disagree without being disagreeable, advocate for what is right, and place the organization’s mission and citizens above personal interests.

As a key member of our executive leadership team, the Assistant Chief of Career Services will provide leadership and oversight of career personnel while helping guide workforce development, strategic initiatives, organizational effectiveness, and professional growth. This position serves as a trusted advisor to the Fire Chief and works collaboratively with fellow leaders to ensure the success of our members and our department.

While this position is focused on Career Services, the successful candidate must also understand and embrace the critical role that volunteer members play in our combination fire department. We are seeking a leader who values volunteerism, respects the traditions and contributions of our volunteer members, and actively works to strengthen relationships between career and volunteer personnel. Northern Wake’s success depends on one team with one mission, and this leader must be committed to fostering unity, trust, and engagement across the entire organization.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about:

  • Developing future leaders
  • Building a positive and accountable culture
  • Mentoring and coaching others
  • Collaborative leadership and teamwork
  • Ethical decision-making and professional excellence
  • Strengthening relationships throughout a combination department
  • Serving both our members and community with integrity

Northern Wake Fire Department proudly serves approximately 80 square miles of northwestern Wake County, NC from four fire stations, with a fifth station scheduled to open in 2026. We are committed to delivering professional, customer-focused emergency services while investing in the growth, development, and success of our people.
